Task 2 : Magazines & Audiences

Kerrang magazine has been around for years now and now has a very distinguished community of fans. The magazine started in 1981 initially meant to be a one time supplement focusing on the rise of hard rock acts such as AC/DC, however it done so well they decided to release more issues at later dates and is still running to this day.

Kerrang is aimed at a very niche audience of hardcore rock and rollers and punk phanatics, so doesn't appeal to the majority of the public, however Kerrang also have a Music Channel for sky viewers which runs nearly 24/7 blasting peoples ears full of riffs and solos, what more would you want?

The designer of this issue above has made this issue appeal to the audience by doing many smart things. The first being simple, its common logic that if you put one of the best rock bands of all time as the main image on your magazine people are obviously going to get interested. In this case he has placed a large picture of Axl Rose singing. To the majority of the public this wont appeal but when it comes to rock and roll this mans band "Guns N' Roses" people who like rock will love this issue.

As well as the main image, the designer has put right at the top "Free Inside", this automatically sells the magazine as everyone loves free stuff, and to a collector something free with the magazine is like an extra piece to his collection.
